Kodakara shashti festival
Shashti festival of Kunnuthrikkovil temple (oldest in Kerala) gave Kodakara a cultural entity.
It made Kodakara familiar to outerworld. It is conducted on "Shuklapaksha " in Vrischikam month.
(November/December). The parade with "Kavady" gaves this festival a colourful appearance. After
conducting "kalabha Abhishekam" at the hill top of Kunnuthrikkovil all groups Parade to Kavil Nada.
Approximately 20 groups are participated in "kavadiyattam" representing villages and sub castes.
Youths bearing huge "Kavady's" on shoulders dances with the rhythmical beating of "shinkari Melam".
Participation of all maestros in "nadaswaram" brings people to the acme of enthusiasm. Mayilattam
and Karakattam adds the charm of this festival. The ground near boys high school turns to multi-
purpose entertaintment centre. Exihibition stalls, amusement park and circus tent are arranged here.
During these days all streets of Kodakara and nearby villages leads to Kavil Nada. Street vendors
selling sugar canes , Halwas,Dates and other sweets outnumbers the pedastrtians. At temple ground
palmists will invite you and they predict your future with the help of parrots. Every Kodakarites spends
the whole night sleeplessly.
