Geographical features:
Kodakara is a developing midland town between Ernakulam and Thrissur. The largest and busiest national highway of Kerala (NH 47) passes through Kodakara. The Cochin-Shornur railway line is about 4 km south from kodakara.
Wet lands are rare in this area. Rice, coconut, aricanut, coco, cashew nut, banana,vegetables are main crops. Now floriculture is new trend. (Orchid, Anthurium,Jasmine etc). In the valley of Kanakamala rubber also is cultivated.paddy fields,coconut orchards and green hills gives Kodakara a rare natural charm. All the pilgrim centres are on the top of these hills. The branch canal of chalakudy-Edamalayar irrigation project helped to increase agricultural productivity of the area.All facitilities of city life is at an arm's length from kodakara. At the same time one can enjoy here the purity ,natural beauty and calmness of a typical sleepy kerala village. Kodakara will soon change to an industrial town. There is an proposal to set up an I.T. Park in this area. The proximity of Nedumbassery international airport enhances the chance of kodakara to develop as an industrial hub of Thrissur. one of the largest tyre manufacturing company ofIndia- Appolo tyres is at kodakara.

PILGRIM CENTRES:
Kunnuthrikkavu (Hill of three temples).
The green hill and the three temples of Siva,Vishnu and Subrahmanya attracts everybody. Kunnuthrikkavu is 1 km north from kodakara. The shashti festival of Sri. Subrahmanya temple is famous in kerala. It is the oldest shashti festival of kerala. The hill and the temple of Subrahmanya resembles Pazhani in Tamil nadu.
Areswaram ( land of six god).
The temple situates at the western valley of Kodassery hills. Ladies are permitted to enter this temple
this temple. So Areswaram is known as "mini Sabari mala" and "Women's Sabari mala". This temple is at Kodakara
vellikulangara route. (only walkable distance from the road to the hill top). Areswaram
is only 4 km away from kodakara town.(it is in mattathur panchayath)
Punarjany Noozhal (A narrow passage to rebirth) is famous ritual in this temple. Devotees
enters the narrow cave near the temple chanting "sarana manthras" about Lord Ayyappa and
after travelling through the narrow path exits. It is believed that after this all the
sins are alleviated and the mind and soul gets a rejuvenation.
Kurisumudy pilgrim centre
Kurisumudy situates at the top of kanakamala. All churches of irinjalakuda Diocese organises
pilgrimage journeys to the hill top during march april months.This pilgrim centre resembles
Malayattur in Ernakulam district.
Other famous temples and churches in kodakara.
Poonilarkavu devi temple.
Poonilar kavu is famous for karthika festival. It is considered as the oldest festival
of kodakara. The "vadya melam" and fire works attracts every body. At least five elephants
are participated in this festival.

St. antony's church perambra.
It is the oldest church in kodakara. It was established as a chapel in the name of Saint Antony in the year of 1830. The church was established in the year 1832 after getting approval from Kochi Maharaja and Methran of Varapuzha.

Puthukkavu Bhagavathy temple.
It is believed that Puthukkavu Bhagavathy is the sister of St. Antony. Puthukkavu is 1 km away from perambra. This temple is faqmous for thalappoly festival.

St. Joseph's Forena church Kodakara.
It is constructed adopting Gothic style. The church is in the heart of kodakara. Devamatha church vallappady and Thessery church are other important churches.

Kandamkulangara temple, Puthukulangara Sree Krishna temple, Manakulangara vishnu temple,
Karuppakulangara Sree Dharma Sastha temple..

Juma Masjid Kodakara is the only Muslim church in Kodakara.
Cultural Heritage of kodakara
Thrissur is known as "cultural capital of kerala". It is also known as "land of festivals" Kodakara contributes much in the cultural heritage of Thrissur. The shasshti festival in kerala is originated from kodakara. The following institutions had helped kodakara to enter the heritage zone of Thrissur.
SREEKRISHNA ASHRAM PARAMESWARAM.
It is situated at the western valley of Kodassery hills. Swami arameswarananda saraswathy is the head of this ashram
KAIMUKKU MANA.
Kaimukku mana is at mattathur. It is 3 km away from kodakara. Kaimukku mana is one of the six "vaidhika Grihams " of kerala. The Travancore,Cochin and Samoothiri kings admired the members of this family and allowed previlages and presented them larged area of land to them. Kaimukku mana had conducted "Adhana yagam and Somaq yagam"

INDUSTRIAL FEATURES OF KODAKARA.

Preprations for the industrial progress of this area started in 1940's. "Gramodharanam" provided a strong basis for the industrial growth of Kodakara. There was some weaving centers, loom centers and a clothe trading center under Gramodharanam. Alagappa chettiyar (founder of Alagappa Textile Mills and Alagappa Nagar township) firstly came to Kodakara to establish the mill . But hindrance in acquiring land at Kodakara made Chettiyar choose Alagappa Nagar to establish the township .

House hold industries.

Manufacturing of metal utencils, agricultural implements,ceramic and pottery wares, bamboo products, mats etc are main household industries.

SMALL SCALE INDUSTRIES.

Small scale industries of kodakara are mainly based on agricultural products. Rice mills,
flour mills, oil mills, food manufacturing units etc.Paking case industries, Manufacturing
of match box, rexin, bulb, paint,paper,electrical equipments, bus body building units, automobile workshops
and wooden furniture manufacturing units are new trends.
Large scale industries.
After the establishment of Appolo tyres at perambra, kodakara entered in the list
of industrial towns in kerala

Education

The villager's under the leadership of Padinjarekunnathu Moose Namboothiri established an L.P. School in 1908.(now G.L.P. School). A High School was opened at Gramodharanam Building in 1943. Sri. A. Velayudha Menon was it's first manager. After the death of Mr. Menon, his brother Govinda Menon and some wellwishers organised a committee for the management of this school. Sri. N. V. Krishna Varyar,(first headmaster), Dr. M.S. Menon , Sri. P.G.P.Pillai
were the teachers during this period. Later Cochin Nair Samajam and teachers association were entrusted with the functioning of the school. The school was surrendered to govt. of Kerala in 1958 June 2. In 1960's seperate high schools for girls and boys and L.P.
